The Indian team find themselves in a spot of bother after West Indies and South Africa demolishing the opposition in their respective first Super 8 games of the T20 World Cup 2026. Unfortunately, in South Africa's case, the opposition was India - and the defeat margin was 76 runs. Losing the game has not only dented India's net runrate, but also dented their chances of making it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026.
However, the big question which arises now is - How did India land in this situation and what can be done to get out of it? - Well, one of the big reasons is India's top order. Either of openers have failed, especially Abhishek Sharma, who has registered three ducks in the tournament so far. Or the middle order Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav scoring runs at a strike rate of 100-110 - which has caused India defeat against the Proteas.

To get out of this situation, Suryakumar Yadav and the team management is trying all permutations, and one of the combinations which looks highly likely on cards is - Sanju Samson opening along side Ishan Kishan in Chennai against Zimbabwe. Sanju, who has played just one game in the ongoing T20 World Cup, might get a chance to play alongside Ishan Kishan. The duo was seen practicing together at nets for hours, making it pretty obvious about the change that Indian team might be making.
The video was posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on the Instagram and the duo looked in the zone, serious and ready for the business. Sanju Samson was timing the ball with perfection while Ishan Kishan was seen playing some cracker shots. India will be playing their next game against Zimbabwe on 26th February in Chennai, which is obviously a must win game. It will be interesting to see if Indian team can hold their nerves and get back rolling.
