Virat Kohli could not have much of an impact with the bat in the first ODI against England, but his gesture after the match has caught the attention of fans on social media. Following India's six-wicket win on Tuesday, a clip from the post-match handshakes quickly began going viral on Instagram. As the Indian players lined up to greet their England counterparts, Kohli was initially at the front of the line. Just before the handshakes began, however, he stepped aside and gestured to captain Shubman Gill to lead the team instead.

Indian captain Shubman Gill went ahead to shake hands first, while Kohli quietly moved back into the line behind him. The moment lasted only a few seconds, but it didn't go unnoticed. Fans on Instagram praised the former India captain for the gesture, with many saying it reflected the respect he has for Gill's leadership. Watch the video here.

Some of the comments on the post said that it showed the smooth understanding between the two, with Kohli allowing the young skipper to take the lead after a winning start to the series. Gill and Kohli have a huge amount of respect towards each other and this clip has been widely shared and has become one of the talking point a day after the opening ODI.

India start the ODI series with a comprehensive win

Team India enjoyed a dominant start to the three-match series with a comfortable victory. England were bowled out for 258 after Axar Patel produced career-best ODI figures of 4/62, while Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar chipped in with important wickets. The chase began on a difficult note as Rohit Sharma departed for 11 before Jofra Archer trapped Kohli lbw for five.

Indian captain Shubman Gill then anchored the innings with a composed knock, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar added an unbeaten partnership to steer India home and hand the visitors a 1-0 lead in the series. Although Kohli could not make any impact with his batting, his quiet gesture after the match ended up becoming one of the most discussed moments of India's winning night.
