The Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stated in the interview that his team is undergoing a transition phase and that he is really proud of the unit. CSK were eliminated from the playoff race after their loss against the Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad. The approach of the CSK unit was questionable in this season and Gaikwad has attempted to clear the air surrounding it. He even claimed that many of the fans are refusing to buy the fact that they are in a transition phase with a young squad.

“Not many people actually buy the fact that we are a young team, we are in a transition phase, and [we don't have] a lot of players who are experienced enough, especially in the toughest competition,” stated Ruturaj Gaikwad after the match. It is indeed true that they are undergoing a period of transition as they did trade off Ravindra Jadeja as well. They have invested much of their budget in young talent and they seem to be looking forward to the future.

Inconsistent senior stars and underutilised overseas players leave CSK fans unconvinced

“But given the fact that [we have] eight to 10 players who have played just below 20 games, it's good to have that exposure for them, especially this year. We got to know what are the areas we are lacking [in], but still, to get those six wins and a couple of great wins as well, I'm really proud of the unit,” added Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Rather than putting more emphasis on the transition phase, it would be better to point out the mistakes that were made in the IPL 2025 auction. It was nothing unforeseeable that was on the cards as MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were veterans whose end was most probably near. However, the management made no efforts as such to rope in exciting young talents and they decided to chase experience and to polish some of the rusty out of form players and hope for the best. It has all backfired in the last two seasons and that is the sole reason why they were desperate to invest such huge amounts of money in uncapped domestic talents.

Some of their decisions seemed a bit confusing for the experts as Akeal Hosein proved his worth for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and yet he wasn’t a constant starting player. CSK’s utilization of overseas talents is a spot of bother as even when their overseas slots weren’t filled they gave Matt Short just 3 chances. Akash Madhwal was roped in as a replacement player but he didn’t even get a single chance despite the constant failures.

The CSK fans may not be entirely buying the statement by their skipper as some of their decisions were questionable. The performance of Ruturaj Gaikwad himself was below par and he wasn’t able to contribute much. Shivam Dube has been given the role of a finisher but he didn’t really prosper except in one or two games. On the contrary, their inexperienced players such as Kartik Sharma was their third highest run-getter. The fact that their experienced players didn’t step up when required and the dependency of the CSK batting unit on Sanju Samson are the most prominent reasons for their poor performance.
