Royal Challengers Bengaluru made it to the history books on Thursday evening as they became the joint most successful franchise in the history of Mumbai Indians by clinching their second title against the Delhi Capitals. RCB were the title favourites from the start of the championship in January and they delivered by living up to all the hype and expectations of their fans.
Smriti Mandhana’s side were a joy to watch all across the championship as they produced some mouthwatering performances during the league stages. The two time WPL champions finished at the top of the league table with six wins in eight outings, including five back-to-back wins. They lost just two games during the league phase and remained dominant all throughout the campaign. Ahead of the big final over the Delhi Capitals, RCB legend Virat Kohli shared a pep talk with the team and shared a few words of wisdom which did the world of good to the team.
“Firstly, huge congratulations on reaching the final of the WPL once again. I have been watching you guys play and it’s been amazing to watch some high pressure games that we won. I really set the tone for us. It’s no surprise to me that we were the first ones to make it to the final and just continuing the momentum we had from the first game. We had a couple of games in the middle where we had something to reflect on and it was important as well.
Kohli appreciated the team for all the hard work and told them to give it their all to win the game “Great effort so far and the day you all have worked hard for is here. I wouldn’t call it just another day or game because that’s what we play sport for, the big finals and trophies. On the field, give everything that you have because those 1% small things make all the difference at the very end. So, if you have a chance to put your body on the line for that ball, do it. That’s what’s gonna count at the end of the day and if you do that you can walk away from the field with your head held high. I wish you all have a great day and hopefully a great celebration to follow, Wish you guys all the best, go RCB,”
Shreyanka Patil thanked Virat for his words and said, “On behalf of the entire team, I would love to thank Virat for that lovely message. We received your message in the group last evening and it was so nice for your lovely words. It encouraged and motivated us to see how badly you want us to win. So, it’s like a family all together. Thank you for the lovely message,”
