Urvil Patel was born on 17 October 1998 in Mehsana, Gujarat. His father was a school physical training teacher and former university sprinter who heavily disciplined his athletic growth. Patel is a 27-year-old Indian cricketer who plays as a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter for Chennai Super Kings. He made his domestic debut for Baroda in 2018 before transferring to Gujarat Cricket Club. On 10 May 2026, he entered cricket folklore by smashing a 13-ball fifty against the Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This blistering knock equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 2023 record for the fastest half-century in IPL history. After reaching his milestone, he pulled out a note from his pocket reading, "This is for you Papa," dedicating the feat to his father, Mukesh Patel.

He holds the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, smashing a 28-ball hundred against Tripura in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was originally picked up by Gujarat Titans in 2023 for ₹20 lakh but never got a game. He went unsold in subsequent auctions. CSK signed him as an injury replacement player for ₹30 lakh. He initially broke in during the 2025 season and was recalled to the playing XI in the 2026 season following a hamstring injury to Ayush Mhatre. He possesses a 41-ball century in List-A cricket (Vijay Hazare Trophy), which is the second-fastest by an Indian.

Urvil Patel smashes joint fastest fifty in IPL against Lucknow Super Giants

Urvil Patel walked to the crease at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in the fourth over during a massive chase of 204. He generated immediate chaos by hitting Avesh Khan for three straight sixes to end the fifth over. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad deliberately handed him the strike to start the next over, where Patel hammered uncapped spinner Digvesh Rathi for two more consecutive sixes. He brought up his 50 on his 13th delivery by nudging a single off Indian veteran Mohammed Shami.

He was dismissed for 65 off 23 balls by Shahbaz Ahmed, but his 8 sixes helped Chennai Super Kings secure their first successful 180+ run chase at Chepauk since 2019. This stands as the second-highest strike-rate innings ever recorded for Chennai Super Kings, trailing only Suresh Raina's legendary 87 off 25 balls against PBKS back in 2014. His explosive start broke the back of the 204-run chase. It allowed power-hitters Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer to easily seal a 5-wicket victory with 4 balls to spare, marking CSK's first successful 180+ run chase at Chepauk since 2019.
