The Barbados Tridents rebrand is an effort to restore national identity, satisfy a long-disgruntled fan base, and pioneer a public-private investment model in franchise cricket. The shift back to the Tridents moniker corrects a cultural misalignment that dates back five years. It repositions the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team as a central element of Barbadian statehood. When the Royals Sports Group (RSG) acquired a majority stake in 2021, they dropped the "Tridents" name and uniform in favour of the pink-and-blue branding shared with their Indian Premier League (IPL) flagship, the Rajasthan Royals. The 2021 shift to "Royals" occurred the exact same year Barbados officially cut ties with the British monarchy to become a republic.
Fans felt that replacing the trident, the most recognizable symbol on the Barbadian national flag, with a foreign corporate name detached the franchise from its local roots. Abandoning the traditional ultramarine blue and gold yellow for pink alienated fans who viewed the team colors as a badge of national identity. The structural identity overhaul applies equally to the men's squad and the Women's CPL side. The team is rolling out a completely redesigned logo featuring the national trident. The new matchday kits will return to ultramarine blue, golden yellow, and black. The team will debut its restored identity under captain Rovman Powell at Kensington Oval on August 11, 2026, playing against the Jamaica Kingsmen.

Inside this "One Barbados" alliance
The "One Barbados" Alliance is a structured, state-backed partnership between the Barbados Government and the Royals Sports Group (RSG). It represents a shift from a standard commercial franchise model to a sovereign economic asset. The alliance is built on three core pillars designed to drive long-term value for the island. The Barbados Government has agreed in principle to buy a minority equity stake in the franchise. This makes Barbados one of the few sovereign governments to hold direct ownership in a private T20 cricket team.
The Royals Sports Group keeps majority ownership and manages all on-field, scouting, and day-to-day cricket operations. Financial returns and brand equity are shared back with the state to fund local sports infrastructure. The Tridents will act as a primary marketing ambassador for Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), leveraging RSG’s global fan base across India and North America. The alliance aims to bring international training camps, academies, and exhibition matches to the island during the CPL off-season. The state secured the mandatory return of the trident and national colours (ultramarine blue and gold) to ensure the team visually represents the Barbadian republic.
