Once a King, always a King. There are always great batters that become better than the rest or the competition around. And perhaps it’s only fair to call them greats for their approach to even simple games - contests that may not necessarily be do or die- is a cut above the rest. They leave no chances and apply absolute excellence each time they go out to bat. At least, that’s what their attempt is. And where it comes to the phrase great, then someone like Virat Kohli truly underlines the epithet. It might not have been necessarily a half century or a mega run scoring spree.
Continuing from where he left the previous game But Virat Kohli kept up the good work with the bat, once again, for his team and emerged with a vital and as seen in the end, matchwinning knock of 49 precious runs against the Lucknow Super Giants. In what was a fascinating display of batting in which his regular top order partner Phil Salt left the scene early, the talismanic batter took it upon himself to guide the team home making the run chase relatively easy.
Strong as ever
Virat Kohli continued his strong run in the Indian Premier League, climbing to the top of the run charts and claiming the Orange Cap after another key performance against Lucknow Super Giants. Despite not being at his physical best, Kohli showed great intent and control at the crease.
Virat Kohli’s update on his health post match
Speaking after the match, Kohli revealed that he hasn’t been fully fit over the past few days. He mentioned dealing with a sore knee in the previous game and also feeling unwell recently.
While he admitted he is still not at 100%, he looked much better compared to the last outing and was happy with how he started his innings. However, he also felt he could have done more by staying till the end and finishing the chase.
Kohli also spoke about the pitch conditions, explaining that the surface was slower than usual.
Due to the heat and dry weather in Bengaluru, the pitch lacked grass and didn’t play as freely as expected. He adjusted his approach accordingly, focusing on building his innings rather than going too hard early on.
He further praised RCB’s batting strength, highlighting the impact of power-hitters like Romario Shepherd and Tim David.
Kohli pointed out that having such players in the lower order gives the team great confidence and freedom, as they can score quickly even under pressure.
On the whole…
Overall, Kohli emphasized the importance of reading match situations.
While high-scoring games are becoming common, he believes adapting to conditions and handling pressure remains key to success.
