
A few days back there were plenty of rumours and reports that Virat Kohli is planning to play the match against Railways on January 6. DDCA president Rohan Jaitley had earlier indicated that Kohli would play three games. So there were lot of expectations that he will be in action tomorrow. However Virat Kohli will not play against Railways on January 6. This news was confirmed by Delhi head coach. Meanwhile Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana both are set to feature in the match against Railways.
Delhi are currently top of Group D with four wins in five matches. If they manage to win the match against Railways they will advance to the next round in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. As per BCCI guidelines all contracted players have to play a minimum of 2 matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Virat Kohli had played two matches for Delhi already in the tournament.
He feature against Andhra and Gujarat. He scored 131 in the first match to help Delhi chase down a target of 298 against Andhra and 77 in next game against Gujarat helping Delhi get consecutive wins. He has looked in scintillating form and also completed 16,000 runs in his List A career in the last game.
Meanwhile Rohit Sharma also played two matches for Mumbai scoring a century and he will also not take part in any further matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Indian vice captain Shreyas Iyer will captain Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pant is set to lead Delhi in their important game against Railways to be played on January 6. Ironically Virat Kohli's last Ranji Trophy match was against Railways.
Virat Kohli will next be in action on January 11 for the ODI series against New Zealand. He has been in great touch in the ODI format and he will be looking to continue his form going into 2026. After the ODI series against New Zealand, Virat Kohli will have a break until the start of Indian Premier League 2026.
