India claims victory over Afghanistan in last match of ODI series at home
Afghanistan was bowled out for 218 runs in 44.2 overs in Chennai.Choosing to bat first, Afghanistan struggled against India's sharp bowling. Powerhouse bowler Prasidh Krishna tore through their top order with his brilliant 5-wicket haul. However, Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi played a lone warrior's knock. He smashed a fighting 102 runs off 131 balls to keep his team alive. Star batsman Rahmat Shah also gave solid support by chipping in with a steady 42 runs.Despite their efforts, Afghanistan's lower order collapsed quickly under heavy pressure. They lost their final five wickets for very few runs, setting a simple target of 219 that India chased down easily.
India stormed to a 9-wicket win, finishing their dominant innings at 224/1 in just 28.4 overs. The chase began with a bizarre twist as India started at 5/0 without facing a ball. The umpires slammed Afghanistan with a five-run penalty because skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi repeatedly ran on the pitch's protected area while batting. Once play began, the Indian openers crushed the target. Yashasvi Jaiswal blasted a spectacular, unbeaten 110 runs off 86 balls, hitting 14 fours and 3 sixes. He put on a massive 170-run opening partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma, who smashed a brilliant 79. The explosive batting ensured India sealed the 3-0 series clean sweep in style.
