India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a terrific century and helped Mumbai chase down a target of 235 against Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) on Sunday, December 14, at DY Patil Academy, Pune. The opening batter played a terrific innings of 101 off 50 balls, with 16 fours and a six, as Mumbai chase down Haryana’s monumental total in just 17.3 overs with 2.3 overs to spare.
This was the second-highest successful chase in SMAT history just behind Jharkhand's 236 against Punjab a few days back. Yashasvi Jaiswal was involved in a opening stand with Ajinkya Rahane, scoring 53 runs off just 19 balls. He later stitched together a crucial 88-run partnership with Sarfaraz Khan off 37 balls for the second wicket. Sarfaraz also scored a terrific 64 off 25 balls helping Mumbai chase down the target.

This knock has put selectors on notice and the pressure is now firmly on Shubman Gill who will be in action later tonight against South Africa in 3rd T20I. In 2025, Gill has scored 263 runs from 14 innings at an average of 23.90 and a strike rate of 142.93, without scoring a single half-century. With Jaiswal knocking down the door with consistent performances like this it is putting more pressure on both selectors and Shubman Gill. Meanwhile Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored a century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is knocking on the doors. He has now scored 3,667 runs in 120 T20 matches at an average of 33.64 and a strike rate of 152.66, alongside 23 half-centuries. Earlier this year, Yashasvi Jaiswal was top scorer for RR in IPL 2025 with 559 runs from 14 matches.
