In the podcast released by Sportstak, Yuvraj Singh talked about Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style while talking to the sports journalist, Vikrant Gupta. Yuvraj Singh emphasised that Gautam Gambhir's steadfast dedication to his approach was the defining factor that propelled India to the 2026 T20 World Cup victory. Even after enduring considerable criticism following early Test defeats and series losses, Gambhir's unwavering commitment to an aggressive strategy proved to be the decisive element in India's resurgence.
Yuvraj pointed out that Gambhir remained true to his methods, even when the team struggled, and this ultimately "rewarded him with the T20 World Cup." Gambhir cultivated a "fearless" style of cricket, urging players to go on the offensive from the very first ball, irrespective of the possibility of failure. Yuvraj drew a parallel between the current atmosphere under Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav and the one he experienced under Gary Kirsten during the 2011 World Cup, where the management's support allowed players to play with freedom.
He attributed the emergence of young talents, including Abhishek Sharma, to Gambhir's coaching. The shift, he explained, stemmed from the confidence Gambhir instilled in them, particularly the belief that they could win six out of ten matches by simply playing their own game.
Since he was appointed the Head Coach following the 2024 T20 World Cup, Gambhir has received a lot of criticism for his losses in white-ball and red-ball games. Team India failed to qualify for the 2025 World Test Championship, which led to the retirement of key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. Gambhir was under the fire again before the commencement of the new test cycle when he appointed Shubman Gill as the new test captain.
Netizens have also expressed their anger towards the Head Coach for removing Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain even after he won the Champions Trophy in 2025 in March.
