India’s first medalist at the Commonwealth Games, Sanket Sargar, is set to stay in the United Kingdom for the treatment of his injured UCL which he suffered in the final while securing a silver in the 55kg category. Generally, the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) tear requires at least three months time for recovery.

As per a source from the team, Sargar will receive treatment in the UK after initial assessments were completed. The treatment also received a green light from the government. "There were two options with Sanket. To take him back to India or treat him here. After an initial assessment, we thought it is best we treat him in the UK itself. We are chatting with elbow injury experts and the government has okayed his treatment," a team source told the media

The 21-year-old from Maharashtra had a stellar performance as he lifted a total of 248kg - 113kg in the snatch and 135kg in the clean & jerk category to guarantee the medal. Sargar had three clean lifts in the snatch, lifting 107kg, 111kg, and 113kg, respectively. He then locked horns against Malaysia's Aniq Kasdan, who also lifted 107 kg in his first attempt but failed to register a clean lift in his next two but won the Gold.

Sanket then pushed his limits as tried lifting a total of 248kg. However, in the second attempt, he suffered a nasty elbow injury. However, in a showcase of grit and bravery, Sanket returned for a third lift but that only worsen his injury and he failed to complete the attempt

After this heroic display, Sanket Mahadev Sargar received a lot of praise for his brilliant performance. India's President, Droupadi Murmu gave him her blessing. She thanked Sargar for his efforts and praised him for his ‘immense hard work.’
