On Saturday, August 23, Arsenal confirmed the signing of England forward Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for a reported fee of £60 million, including £8 million in add-ons. The North London club completed the move in the build-up to their first home match of the Premier League season against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium in London just a week after winning 1-0 away at Manchester United.

Notably, before Arsenal swooped in with a move for Eberechi Eze - their seventh signing of the ongoing summer transfer window - it was their city rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who had agreed personal terms for the 27-year-old with Crystal Palace and the player himself. It is understood that Eze had a key role in not going to Spurs, instead selecting to join the Gunners since he started his youth career with them a few years ago.

Eberechi Eze is a powerful and exciting player who will give us a new dimension: Mikel Arteta

Since Eberechi Eze was one of the prime transfer targets for Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta in the summer, his arrival has sent a lot of positivity among the club supporters and the staff behind the scenes. Andrea Berta, the Sporting Director of Arsenal, called Eberechi Eze as someone who has “creative and explosive talent with huge technical quality”.

Mikel Arteta shared his thoughts on the signing of the England international on Arsenal’s website, which read, “He (Eberechi Eze) is a powerful and exciting player who will give us a new dimension in our attacking game. What stands out just as much as his talent and intelligence as a player, is the way he has worked hard throughout his career to get where he is today.”

“His journey, his mentality, and his ambition are exactly what we want in our team, and we love how much it means to him and his family to be joining our club,’’ he added. Moreover, Eberechi Eze is set to wear the coveted No. 10 jersey at Arsenal, and he is going to join his new teammates after the conclusion of the upcoming Premier League clash against Leeds United at home.
