The Best Goal Keeper of 2025 without a doubt has been Gianluigi Donnarumma. In the 2024/25 season he has had 17 clean sheets across various competitions and a very high save percentage in Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League. His rankings and stats has been excellent throughout the season. He recorded six shootouts in the Champions League this season, tied for second most among goalkeepers (Yann Sommer, 7; David Raya, 6), and made two saves in a penalty shootout in the Champions League knockout phase, and tied for the most since 2010-11. It is evident that 2025 is his year. Apart from a few mistakes he has been flawless throughout 2024/2025 season.

He was good in the first leg of the Champions League game against Liverpool where he made two penalty saves, Donnarumma has been exceptional. He was clutch for PSG so many times in the Champions League and helped them win four titles which included Ligue 1, Coupe de France, UEFA Champions League, Trophee des champions. The UEFA Champions League Final that PSG won, Donnarumma kept a clean sheet and helped his team in 5-0 win over Inter Milan.

There are a few competitors all but among them, Donnarumma stood large and made amazing saves. The miracles on his line compensate for the improvements he still needs to make on crosses and in his distribution but, as a shot-stopper, there is no one better than him right now. At 26, and 10 years after making his debut he has risen to the big stage and is in his prime currently.

Donnarumma has played 215 matches for Milan, winning the Supercoppa Italiana in 2016, before moving to PSG in 2021. He won 10 trophies with PSG including helping the club win the Champions League last season for the first time ever as they completed a treble. Donnarumma was the youngest goalkeeper to play for Italy, making his debut aged 17. He has 74 caps and played a pivotal role in his country.

This year he has once again won both the Yashin Trophy in Ballon d’or and was named FIFA Best Goal Keeper in 2025. There was a time earlier in the season when one wondered whether Donnarumma would be a PSG player next year. With his contract expiring in June 2026 and talks for an extension not happening, his future looked in doubt. After helping PSG win the titles, he made a shift to Manchester City into September his transfer was completed. Manchester City completed the signing of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italy international has moved to the Etihad Stadium in a deal worth €30 million ($40.2m). He signed a five-year contract to replace Ederson in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Ederson’s eight-year stay at City is at an end after the Brazilian joined Fenerbahce for €14m. Donnarumma has had a solid year and comfortably managed to prove to the World that the Italy No. 1 with his recent performances was the best for the job and he was the best goalkeeper in 2025.
