Soon after, in the 24th minute, Dani Olmo played Ferran Torres through,h and he put the ball in the net with a clinical finish. FC Barcelona had levelled the tie with just 24 minutes on the clock, and a comeback looked very achievable.

In the 31st minute of the game, Ademola Lookman was able to find the back of the net with a brilliant finish. It was an exquisite piece of counter-attacking football as the ball was played from the back flank to Antoine Griezmann, who played a lovely through ball to Marcos Llorente. From there, Llorente made no mistake in getting the ball across to Lookman, and he brought Atletico Madrid back into the game. Since then, Barcelona had their chances but weren’t as good in the final third. The red card of Eric Garcia seemed to be the final nail in the coffin, and from then on, a comeback was seemingly impossible.

Most of the pundits had expected the style of football that Atletico Madrid would play as they had to defend their lead. Diego Simeone’s tactics are often considered to be “boring” or “sleepy” as it is straight-out defensive football. He could potentially be taking a dig at the Barcelona fans and critics who blatantly criticise his style of play.
