Edson Alvarez, the captain of Mexican national football team, who plays as defensive midfielder of West Ham United, has been a critical part of his club over the two years he has been with them. However, the 27-year-old, who has made more than 70 appearances for West Ham United, is reportedly set to leave the club this summer.

Latest developments suggest that the Turkish giants Fenerbahce are working over a loan deal to bring the Mexican international to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium this season. Fenerbahce are looking to clinch the Turkish league title from their rivals Galatasaray in this season and want to invest in the defensive midfielder to bring more depth to the squad. Fenerbahce insist on covering the loan fee along with the full salary of the player with a potential buy option clause, which is not mandatory, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The tactical mastermind Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Edson Alvarez to Turkey. However, personal terms have not been agreed with the player till now.

Edson Alvarez unlikely to find game time at West Ham United this season: Reports

Edson Alvarez does not seem to be in the plans of West Ham United’s manager Graham Potter for the current season after he was sat on the bench in the opening weekend of the Premier League in which they were thrashed 3-0 by the newly promoted Sunderland. The 27-year-old has fallen down the ranks for West Ham United as the manager considers Guido Rodriguez, James Ward-Prowse, and Tomas Soucek to be the main starters for the club this season.

In order to find proper game-time and to boost back his confidence, a loan move to Fenerbahce makes complete sense for Edson Alvarez. Fenerbahce will be taking on Benfica in the play-off for qualification to the Champions League and will make the main draw prestigious tournament if they manage to win across both legs. Alvarez might be tempted by playing under the likes of Jose Mourinho and contributing to the team in achieving their goal of winning the title, following finishing as the runners-up in the previous season.
