The most prestigious award ceremony in world football, the Ballon d’Or 2025 was held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris yesterday. The whole elite footballing fraternity were present in Paris yesterday in contention for various awards. However, Ousmane Dembele, the PSG footballer was the one who made the headlines yesterday after the 28-year-old won the Golden Ball for the very first time in his life.
The race for the Ballon d’Or was highly contested by Barcelona’s very own Lamine Yamal who was toe-to-toe on every criteria for the Ballon d’Or alongside the French international. However, it was Dembele who lifted the Golden ball in Paris last night. Lamine Yamal was awarded the Kopa trophy which is awarded to the best U-21 player in the world. This is Lamine Yamal’s second consecutive year winning the Kopa trophy. Following the end of the prestigious ceremony, Lamine Yamal’s dad was asked about his opinion on the winner of the Ballon d’Or to which he reportedly said that it's the “Greatest moral harm to a human being” after Yamal did not win the Ballon d’Or 2025.
I say that something very strange has happened here: Lamine Yamal’s father
Mounir Nasraoui, Lamine Yamal's father, made a remark stating that, “ I believe that Lamine is the best player in the world by far, by a huge margin. Not because he's my son. He's just the best in the world. I don't think he has rivals. I say that something very strange has happened here. Next year the Ballon d'Or will be in Spanish, will be ours."
Yamal, who has had an outstanding season yet again with FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team will be looking forward to keep his performances consistent and keep on scoring goals for his team which will eventually lead him to win the Ballon d’Or. It will be interesting to see how many goal contributions Lamine Yamal makes for Barcelona this upcoming season.
