Lionel Messi has been in terrific form for Argentina in the first two games of their Group Stage, and he was asked if he was ready to play the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The Argentinian humbly responded, stating that he isn’t thinking about it right now and that it was a bit too far off for him to even think about it. The 2022 World Cup winner had turned 39 today, and the impact he has in international football continues to threaten even the most lethal opposition. With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo playing at the age of 41 today, Messi could have a slight chance to play the next World Cup at the age of 43. The football fans will be eager to see Lionel Messi in action for many more years to come, as he seems to be an inevitable force of nature.
“I don't know. The truth is, I'm not thinking about that right now. It seems a bit far off... but, as I said, I'm living one day at a time and focused on the present,” said Lionel Messi on being asked about his presence in the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The Argentinian playmaker has been in fine form for the national side with his performances against Austria and Algeria. He will be looking to play for as long as possible for the national side, and Lionel Messi would be keen on contributing much more to the side.

Argentina cruises into the Round of 32 from Group J
Lionel Messi scored a wonderful hat-trick in the opening game against Algeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. There were doubts regarding his availability and the possible impact his game could have, considering the varying levels of competition from European football to American football. After his historic performance against Algeria in the first clash of the tournament, he scored an impactful brace against Austria with a fine performance. Even though he missed a penalty in the first half of the game, Messi was able to make up for it with two beautifully scored outfield goals.
Argentina have already qualified for the Round of 32, and they are looking to be in strong contention to defend their World Cup title. They have been in fantastic form right from the word go, and they haven’t been tested yet in any of the matches they have played so far. The defending champions were drawn into a comparatively easy group with the likes of Jordan, Algeria and Austria.
Lionel Messi has single-handedly led them to comfortable victories in both games, and he is their only goal-scorer in this edition of the FIFA World Cup so far. Argentina’s last group stage clash against Jordan would surely be another win for the side, and Lionel Messi could extend his goal-scoring record in the FIFA World Cup.
With many of the experts and fans claiming that it would be the last FIFA World Cup for Lionel Messi, the icon has stated that no certain decision has been made yet. However, there could be a possible retirement looming if he defends the crown for his country, as Messi could not have a better international retirement than that.
