Lionel Messi and Barcelona have always been a match made in heaven. The Argentine great built a momentous career at Barcelona before having to move away in August 2021. Messi remains one of Barcelona’s most faithful supporters and has been very vocal about his love for the club. The Spanish giants are undergoing their presidential elections with Joan Laporta officially drafting his resignation to contest again.

This election will play a deciding role in Barcelona’s future plans and it remains to be seen who comes out on top. Current president Joan Laporta will be contesting against Victor Font to retain his chair. While Laporta is the frontrunner to win the elections again, Victor Font is also expected to be one of the favourites.

Amidst all the chaos, Lionel Messi has made his view very clear regarding the elections. He is choosing to be away from the election noise by adapting a neutral role, as per Diario SPORT. Messi will not support any candidate or influence the decision of the election by any means. He will not vote for any candidate and stay away from the limelight.

Interestingly, this is the first instance in many years where Messi will not vote or campaign for any candidate in the elections. He has always been an influential part of the elections until this year. His decision to be away from the elections could be majorly driven by his active involvement with Inter Miami and his family in the United States.

Messi’s departure

Back in 2021, Messi was promised by Joan Laporta that he will remain at FC Barcelona. But, everything went south and Barcelona could not register the Greatest footballer on the planet and Messi was forced to search for a new home. Since then, the World Champion has not maintained fruitful ties with Barcelona’s current leadership and that could also be the reason why he is choosing to be away from the election.
