Notably, Messi’s father, Jorge, passed away at the age of 68 in his hometown after a prolonged battle with illness. As soon as the news broke, tributes started pouring in from all over the world, where fans, pundits and notable names from the sporting world not only sent their condolences but also highlighted how Jorge played a key role in Messi’s success.

Rafael Nadal is the new name that sent a heartfelt message to Messi via social media. The tennis stalwart took to X and wrote, “Dear Leo, I can't imagine the pain you must be going through. I'm sending you all my love and my condolences to you and your entire family during this such difficult time. Rest in peace, Jorge.”

Lionel Messi Arrives in Argentina for Father’s Funeral

The Argentine captain arrived in his hometown of Rosario to attend his father’s last rites. Notably, the eight-time Ballon d’Or champion landed in Argentina alongside his partner, Antonella Rocuzzo and their three children, mostly dressed black. Apart from Nadal, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) also sent their “condolences” to the Messi family in an official statement. It read, “On behalf of Spanish football, we wish to convey all our love and affection to Lionel and his loved ones during this time of deep sorrow.”

Notably, Jorge Messi was a former metal factory worker but played a key role in his son’s success as a football legend. He was Leo’s first coach and sole companion when he first moved to Barcelona as a child. Jorge later went on to become his agent.
