The mid-table clash in the National Women’s Super League (NWSL) saw Seattle Reign take on Racing Louisville as the winner would reach close to the top four. However, just before the end of the first-half of the match, a tragic incident shook the whole footballing fraternity as the 27-year-old midfield sensation Savannah DeMelo collapsed on the pitch all of a sudden.

The Louisville player was immediately taken off the pitch by the ambulance as it was a medical emergency. All the players on the pitch were left in shock as she suddenly sat on the pitch mid-game and the medical professionals rushed in to avoid any severe problems. The NWSL later confirmed via their social media handles that DeMelo is stable and is getting all the required attention she needs during this tough period.

NWSL confirms match will now be played on another date

The statement by the NWSL further added, "Our first priority is her health and safety. We are in close communication with Racing Louisville's medical team. The NWSL remains committed to ensuring that the highest standards of medical care and emergency response are in place at every match." The match was abandoned halfway following this incident and both the teams agreed that the match which was goalless till halftime will now be played on another date, according to the schedules of both the teams.

The 27-year-old has been facing health problems for some time now as in March she was stretchered off the field due to dizziness and chest tightness. She revealed in the month of May that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism. DeMelo will now be keen on recovering well and ensure that she is fully fit to step on the pitch again.
