David Beckham was a star of Manchester United, he became a part of the Galácticos in 2003 when he joined the La Liga Giants Real Madrid in 2003 for €37 million. Shortly after joining Madrid, he won the Spanish Super Cup, and his tenure there came to an end in 2007 after winning the La Liga.
In the 2002-2003 season, Beckham was unable to find his mojo with United as Ole replaced him on the right side of the midfield. Then there was this famous debacle between Beckham and Alex Ferguson. After the FA Cup loss to Arsenal, Alex Ferguson threw a boot at him in the dressing room that struck him above eye pertaining to a cut. United was looking to sell him in the Summer transfer window to Barcelona. The two clubs almost reached an agreement, but Beckham joined Real Madrid, becoming the third Englishman to join the Spanish Giants.
During a recent chat with talkSPORT, Beckham shared a few insights on his tenure with Madrid and compared his time there with that of the Red Devils:
He said: “I think Real Madrid is a monster of a club and you feel the expectations. The moment you sign for that club, the expectation is probably like no other club that I've played for. Obviously, growing up in Manchester, Manchester United is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, club in the world in my mind. But that's me talking as a Manchester United fan."
Beckham was already a star and celebrated player at United. We still remember the iconic moment on the field when Zidane asked Beckham during a match if he wanted to sign for Real Madrid.
Further, Beckham said: “But Real Madrid, you turn up, you walk into that stadium, you put that shirt on, you look at the history of the club, everything about (them) feels different. I remember my first season, walking into other stadiums, people look at you different, they treat you different. You turn up and it's an unbelievable feeling. So there's a certain amount of pressure that comes with that."
In the 2005-2006 season, Beckham established a lot of football academies in Los Angeles. After changes in Madrid managers and Madrid not performing well in the season, they made a decision to release Beckham, and Beckham declared he would join MLS in a 5-year deal with LA Galaxy. He then went on a stint from MLS to a loan to Milan quite a few times, making comebacks, and he finally hung up his boots in PSG in the year 2013.
