During the college football game between Penn State Nittany Lions and Oregon Ducks on September 27, spectators were seen honouring Charlie Kirk, the Republican politician who was assassinated at Utah Valley University, on September 10, 2025. Kirk was assassinated while addressing an audience on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. To remember the late Republican leader, Turning Point USA announced the distribution of 5,000 "FREEDOM" T-shirts at the college football match. A large number of spectators hoarded at Penn State's Beaver Stadium parking lot to receive memorial T-shirts.

The organisation coordinated the memorial event to honour Kirk. During the memorial, Benny Johnson addressed the spectators on Will Cain Country. "In the vein, and in honor of Charlie Kirk, we are going to fight cultural battles, and we are going to win them in an arena that Charlie loved so very much – college football,” said Johnson. A video posted by Johnson on X showed that the student’s section at the stadium filled with spectators wearing memorial T-shirts. The chants of Kirk were reigning the stadium.

Oregon football coach condoles Charlie Kirk’s assasination

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning condoled Kirk’s death and also displayed solidarity with the late Republicans family. "I recently found out Charlie Kirk was an Oregon fan… that sort of evil should never exist in our country," said Lanning.

Dan stressed on unity principles within his football project to make society a better place to live and evolve. "You walk in that locker room, you've got guys of different races, guys of different backgrounds, different religions, and you've got a team that loves each other… I wish the world could learn a little something from that," added Oregon's head coach.
