Indian football has been in the news and it is not for good ones recently. Players have been speaking out in recent months regarding Indian football, and the latest video from the footballers which was put out by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has gone viral on social media. Sandesh Jhingan, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sunil Chhetri all of them along with many foreign players, have literally pleaded the FIFA to find a resolution and ‘save Indian football’.

“The Indian football government is no longer able to fulfill its responsibilities. We are now staring at a permanent paralysis. This is the last-ditch effort to save what we can. So we’re calling FIFA to step in and do what it takes to save Indian football,” a part of the video was quoted.

This video comes as the Indian Super League is still in turmoil as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) negotiates with the clubs, which seems to be a never ending cycle. After the failure to reach the Master Rights Agreement with FSDL, the AIFF has not been able to land a commercial deal for the top domestic league of this country. The months have passed, the underwhelming Super Cup’s memories have faded in the memories of fans, and yet the players, clubs, fans wait for the first chance of the football this season.

As we are in 2026 and interest was supposed to peak, ecosystems were supposed to run on autopilot, things came crashing down for Indian football. 2025 became a year Indian football would rather forget. 2025 was a nightmare for both fans and the team as Indian football did not win a single international game. In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, India finished third behind Qatar and Kuwait, with five points from six matches. They could not even secure a win against Afghanistan. Instead of fixing the issues, the authorities went on a spree of changing coaches with Indian coach Khalid Jamil being sacked.

India’s FIFA ranking dropped to 142 which is a long decline from the country’s best-ever mark of 94 in 1996. There are issues off the pitch as well, the damage ran deeper. The ISL has failed to start meaning plenty of players are unsure about the future. Administrative deadlock at the All India Football Federation (AIFF) could not hold on to sponsors. No bids came in for league rights. City Football Group pulled out of Mumbai City FC. The video went viral on social media as the players have resorted to FIFA to step in and save Indian football. This is the toughest time for both players and the Football fans of the country.
