Things got ugly towards the end of the match between Manchester City and Sunderland. Italy and Manchester City goalkeeper Donnarumma produced a couple of important saves to keep Sunderland out and was desperate to see Manchester City force a breakthrough in their ongoing title bid. Towards the end of the match, the Italy international took on the fight with substitute Luke O’Nien preventing the Blues from taking a quick throw-in. Manchester City wanted a quick throw-in late on in the match, but O’Nien prevented them from doing so, prompting Donnarumma’s angry response. This video has gone viral on social media.

The pair squared up as the contest came to a close, with the home support taking to chanting “Who are ya” in the direction of Manchester City’s goal keeper. Donnarumma looked angry and it got to his skin with taunts from the stands doing little to improve his mood.

He lost his cool at the end of Manchester City’s frustrating goal-less draw at Sunderland and was caught up in an ugly post-game spat. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was among those to step in as peacemaker after seeing his clash with Luke O’Nien as the confrontation threatened to spill into a wider melee. Players from both sides rushed in, with Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland among those who helped separate the pair.

Tempers boiled over after the final whistle blew at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland, who have enjoyed a memorable return to the Premier League in 2025/26, were delighted to add another point to their tally after more than matching Manchester City’s big guns toe to toe.

Pep Guardiola’s side were contained for long periods, with few clear sights of goal being enjoyed. Bernardo Silva did see an early effort ruled out for offside, but Manchester City largely struggled to break down their stubborn opposition, while enduring the odd scare at the other end of the field.

This result of draw was a setback for Manchester City’s English Premier League title chase, leaving them four points behind leaders Arsenal. They will face next Chelsea when returning to action at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Sunderland celebrated a statement point to extend their unbeaten home record while Manchester City were left frustrated with this result.
