The IPL 2022 mega auction has been quite an entertaining affair for many franchises but it hasn't been the same way for Mumbai Indians. The defending champions, who had a lesser purse having retained 4 players, have been quite reluctant while entering the bidding wars. They have backed out of many battles, leaving everyone slightly baffled.

After spending Rs 15.25 crore on Ishan Kishan, MI have not been quite active. They came to the mega auction in search of a lethal pacer to form a formidable pair alongside Jasprit Bumrah but things did not pan out the way they would have expected. From Avesh Khan to Harshal Patel to Prasidh Krishna, all the hot prospects were taken by other teams leaving Mumbai with very few options.

As a result, they got the signings of Basil Thampi and Jaydev Unadkat, which did not really go down well with the fans. Although Unadkat was bought for a decent price of Rs 1.3 crore, fans sarcastically stated that he will be the replacement of Trent Boult, who has actually gone to Rajasthan Royals (Unadkat's former franchise).
