Ajinkya Rahane is usually a man of few words but when he speaks, he means business. The 33-year-old, who led India to one of country's most famous Test series win against Australia in 2020-21, has finally opened up after one year of the triumph, shedding light on few things that did not go down too well with him.
After Virat Kohli left the side post a disastrous series opener due to personal reasons, it was Rahane who took over from Kohli and did a remarkable job. He led from the front in Melbourne which eventually set the tone for India's incredible performances to follow. His aggressive captaincy on the field also impressed one and all, however he was probably not given the due credit he deserved.

Most of the talks were around head coach Ravi Shastri and the other staff members as they took the centre stage. And while Rahane has kept his silence all this while, it looks like he has finally fired back at the former head coach for all the thunder they stole from him in the aftermath of the series win.
However, it must be noted that he did not take any names and it is an assumption that he might be referring towards Shastri and Co.
"I know what I've done there. I don't need to tell anyone. That's not my nature to go and take credit. Yes, there were some things that I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took the credit for it," Rahane said in an episode of 'Backstage With Boria'.
He added, "After that, the reactions from people or those who took credit or what was said on the media, 'I did this' or 'This was my decision', or 'This was my call', it was for them to talk about... From my end, I knew what decisions I took on the field and what decisions I took on my instincts."

The 33-year-old explained that he was not too bothered by all that as the only important thing that mattered to him was the fact that India won a historic series and it was for him, a really special achievement indeed.
"Yes, we talked with the management too but I used to laugh about it, that is what I did on the field, I never talk much about myself or praise myself. But what I did there, I knew," Rahane concluded.
