The bidding war for Jofra Archer resulted in one of the most sensational sequence of events during Day 2 of IPL 2022 mega auction. The late addition of pacer in the list was already a surprise, considering the fact that it was told he might not be a part of upcoming season. He has been out of action for a while and ECB are currently managing his fitness and workload.

But despite all these uncertainties, it seems like Archer's incredible talent and his heroics for Rajasthan Royals in past was enough for franchises to go after him, even if his availability remains under clouds of doubt.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals kicked off the bidding war for the pacer, before Sunrisers Hyderabad also entered the race. Even auctioneer Charu Sharma looked quite surprised as he was seen enquiring with franchises if they were aware of Archer's availability scenario.

But, the teams had done their research and MI were determined to get him on board, as they eventually secured his signing for Rs 8 crore, which did leave quite a few people surprised.

Jofra Archer, who is known for his cheeky and witty tweets, also reacted to the whole situation on Sunday. He tweeted an emoji of eyes, which is usually used by netizens when they want to highlight something which was either surprising or dramatic or baffling. Looks like Archer himself also wasn't expecting such a response by franchises on auction day!

The franchise had also done their research as they replied to an old tweet of Archer (from May 25, 2014), where the pacer had tweeted, "Mumbai deserve it." The post was notably in reference to MI's incredible win in IPL that year, where they chased down a target of 190 runs in 14.4 overs on the back of Corey Anderson's heroics.

However, Mumbai used it again 8 years later in reference to Archer's signing, presumably claiming that they know they deserved to get Archer in their star-studded squad.

It is indeed going to be interesting to see how the Archer to MI signing pans out in years to come. If the 26-year-old is indeed available to play (whenever), it is going to be a deadly scenario for batters to face Bumrah and Archer bowling in tandem.
