The entire cricketing world has set its eyes on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which will be hosted by Australia during the months of October and November. But on this road to Australia comes the Asia Cup, another crucial tournament which will be the staged for teams to solidify their squads for the T20 World Cup.
The tournament will be played between August - September 2022 and will begin on 27 August. The Asia Cup was set to be hosted by Sri Lanka but citing the current socio-economic state of the Island nation, the Asian Cricket Council decided to move the tournament to the United Arab Emirates.
The 2022 Asia Cup comprises of six teams out of which five are confirmed in Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The last spot will be open for One team from Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and UAE.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 23 runs to claim the Asia Cup 2022 title.

After Afghanistan posted a hefty 175/6 in their 20 overs, Sri Lankan batters put a collective effort to belittle the target and chase it down with five balls to spare. Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by four wickets to start their Super 4s campaign with a win. Pathum Nissanka (35), Kusal Mendis (36), Danushka Gunathilaka (33), and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (31) made handy contributions to their team's win. Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman starred with his 2/30.
On the back of a historic inning from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (84 off 45), Afghanistan posted an above-par score against Sri Lanka in their first match of the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. Ibrahim Zadran also chipped in with a handy 40 off 38 balls. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madhushanka starred with 2/37. Meanwhile, Hasarnaga was economical (0-23) in his four overs.
Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka put on a spirited performance against Bangladesh in a do-or-die game as they beat the Tiger by two wickets. Kusal Mendis was the star for Sri Lanka as he scored a well-paced half-century (60 off 37 balls). With this win, Sri Lanka progressed to the second round of the Asia Cup 2022 i.e. Super 4s.
Mahedi Hasan handed a massive blow to Sri Lanka as the off-spinner got rid of Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka who was looking so composed in the middle. Shanaka had to pay for being extra greedy. The batter tried to make the 18th over a big one but he perished while trying to slog Hasan over long-on. Sri Lanka 158/7 in 17.5 overs need 27 more to win.
