Mithali Raj is a cricketing legend by all means. Her records speak for herself and her contribution to Indian cricket is far greater than the runs scored with the bat or the matches won under her leadership. She remains a role model and inspiration to women across the length and breadth of the country and even to several others around the world as a champion of women's sport and her splendid achievements in the sport across a marathon career.
It is no wonder then that someone spotted a potential movie story based on her life and it is coming close to being released for viewing by fans. It is the Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu who will play the role of Raj in the movie and she has been putting in some hard work to not only understand the nuances of the game but transform her physical self like a professional cricketer at the highest level.
"The meta moment…. Soaking it in… Nearing the end… #ShabaashMithu," Taapsee captioned a couple of pictures of herself in which she could be seen wearing the iconic Mithali number 3 jersey.
Here is her Tweet:
It is being reported that the film is set to be released soon. Helmed by director Srijit Mukherji, the film is titled Shabaash Mithu. It is being produced by Ajit Andhare and is written by Priya Aven. The movie is set to trace Raj's journey to being one of the nation's biggest sporting stars.
Notably, this isn't the first time that Taapsee will be playing the role of a sportsperson as she had already featured in a sports drama movie titled Saand ki Aankh where she had played the role of a shooter along with Bhumi Pednekar. Much like Shabhash Mithu, that movie was also based on the life of a real personality.
Taapsee had earlier shared the first look and poster of the movie in January last year but the movie was pushed back and a date of November 5, 2021 is currently doing the rounds. However, even that seems to be a bit unlikely at this point.
The post from Taapsee could also suggest that the final stage of post-production might perhaps be underway and the movie should be released anytime soon. Other than Shabash Mithu, another cricket-based movie, the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey is set to be released on December 31. However, the latter is an entirely fictional plot based on the life of a cricketer in his 30s trying to play for the national team.
