The Gujarat Titans (GT) have been dealt a significant blow midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season as their explosive middle-order batter Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the tournament with a groin injury. The New Zealand international sustained the injury while fielding as a substitute against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6, and has since returned home for rehabilitation. Known for his aggressive batting and handy wicket-keeping skills, Phillips’ absence leaves a gap in Gujarat's power-packed lineup.
With the franchise yet to announce a replacement, attention has turned to potential candidates who can fill the void. In this article, SportsTiger looks at three players who can replace Glenn Phillips in the GT squad for IPL 2025.
Here are three players who can replace Glenn Phillips in GT squad
3. Roston Chase
Roston Chase, the experienced West Indian all-rounder, could be a smart pick for the Titans if they seek balance in their squad. Though Chase has not featured in the IPL yet, he is no stranger to high-pressure T20 environments, having played in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and other global T20 tournaments. Chase is primarily known for his calm presence at the crease and the ability to anchor innings in the middle order; a role that Glenn Phillips excelled at.
2. Dwaine Pretorius
South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius presents an intriguing option. Having previously represented Chennai Super Kings, Pretorius has tasted IPL cricket, and offers a blend of aggressive lower-order hitting and seam bowling. In his short IPL stint, he maintained an impressive strike rate of over 150, and has a reputation for delivering in crunch moments with both bat and ball.
1. Kyle Mayers
Of all the options, Kyle Mayers appears the most natural fit to fill the void left by Glenn Phillips. The left-handed West Indian batter had an impressive IPL 2023 season with Lucknow Super Giants, amassing 379 runs in 13 matches at a blistering strike rate of over 140. Mayers brings explosive power at the top of the order, can take on the new ball bowlers from ball one, and adds value as a part-time medium pacer.
