The WrestleMania 2022 is just a few days away from now and there is already so much excitement around it. The event has seen some amazing fights over the years which have been full of action and entertainment. However, disputes and unexpected drama have also been quite an integral part of this event. Let us have a look at three of the most dramatic and shocking WWE controversies of WrestleMania in last few years.
Decision gets reversed after an e-mail by anonymous Raw GM
It was in WrestleMania 27 when an unexpected series of events unfolded during the match between Michael Cole (with Jack Swagger) and Jerry Lawler were up against each other in a special match with guest referee Stone Cold in charge. After Swagger tried to help Cole, he received a Stone Cold Stunner from the referee of the match.
Few moments later, Lawler forced his opponent to submit with a lethal ankle hold. Stone Cold mocked Cole for few seconds before awarding the match to Lawler. However, this was followed by more drama. A mail from anonymous Raw GM was received and commentator Josh Mathews read out, which stated that Lawler had been disqualified from the match due to referee's Stone Cold's physical interference and amid the boos inside the arena, Cole was declared as the winner.
Two arch-rivals unite to defeat The Rock
Just before the entry of Stone Cold and The Rock in WrestleMania 17, a no disqualification stipulation was added, which hinted that something astonishing could take place in the fight. However, no one had expected what was about to happen! Out of nowhere, Stone Cold's arch-rival, whom he considered his nemesis - Mr. Vince McMahon - appeared to watch the contest from the ringside.
As The Rock was agonizingly close to pin down his opponent, McMahon pulled him back to prevent the fight to end, much to the disbelief of everyone. The Rock then tried to attack McMahon and in the process, Stone Cold recovered before getting his way back into the fight. He was then handed a steel chair by foe turned friend McMahon and after hitting The Rock 16 times with the chair, Cold ended the match to clinch the title in one of the most controversial moments of WWE history.
Seth Rollins wins Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns championship fight
One of the most bizarre incidents happened in WrestleMania 31 during the World Heavyweight Championship fight between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns. After an intense battle between the duo, there was a moment when both the wrestlers were lying down inside the ring when Seth Rollins appeared out of nowhere to cash in his Money In The Bank contract, which was happening for the first time ever during an ongoing match.
The organizers accepted Rollins' proposal on the spot and in matter of few seconds, the singles' contest was turned into a triple threat match. As it turned out, Rollins came up with an epic Curb Stomp to Reigns, clinching the title and walking out of the ring as WWE World Heavyweight Champion in most controversial circumstances.
