The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Star batter Suryakumar Yadav will be seen returning as captain in the shortest format for India, while Shubman Gill has been appointed as vice-captain for the upcoming tournament. The Asia Cup 2025 will be played from September 9 to 28 in UAE.

Although the selectors tried to pick the best squad for the Asia Cup 2025, there are also some players who showed great form in T20 cricket in recent times but didn’t get a place in the 15-member squad for the upcoming tournament. In the following listicle, we will have a look at the top three key players missing from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad.

1. Shreyas Iyer

Star batter Shreyas Iyer is among the key players who didn’t get a place in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Iyer has been in great form for India in recent times especially in the 50-over format. He was a key performer in the ODI World Cup 2023 and was also the top scorer for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph as well. Although, Iyer wasn’t a first pick in the T20I format for India, he made headlines with his performance in the IPL 2025. As a captain for Punjab Kings, Iyer led from the front amassing 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07. Looking at his recent performance in big tournaments, the fans were expecting Shreyas Iyer to return in the Asia Cup 2025 squad but he didn’t get a place in the 15-men line-up.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal became a prominent player for India in the T20I format at the start of his career. He also has good stats in the shortest format amassing 723 runs from 23 T20Is at a strike rate of 164.31. However, Jaiswal last played a T20I match for India back in July 2024 and became a key player for India in Test cricket. There were reports that Jaiswal can make his return for the Asia Cup 2025 but the selectors picked him as a reserve player instead of adding him in the 15-member squad.

3. Washington Sundar

All-rounder Washington Sundar has also looked in good touch in recent times but didn’t get a place in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025. However, he is picked as a reserve player for the upcoming tournament. Sundar had a good outing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 amassing 133 runs at a strike rate of 166.25. Apart from that, he also turned out to be a star performer for India in the recently ended Test series against England.
