It is needless to say that the contemporary structure of cricket is such that it has a lot of money in it. Loads of earning, especially if you represent any of the top three cricket boards of the sport! For that is down to the reason that not only do these cricket boards earn a lot on advertising and marketing revenues and content, but actually promote their cricketing talents in the right sense of the word as well.
At the same time, each of the three big powerhouses of world cricket, England, Australia and India, in particular, have in their ranks talismanic talents that constantly fight mediocrity and appear as giants for such is their redoubtable talent.
The more the talent, the more the awareness of brands and investors to cling to these "Big Three" like honeybees to beehive. And add to it, an incessant love and following for cricket that ensures that more often than not, it's a full house where it comes to powerhouses like the Indian Cricket establishment. Moreover, due to the growing love for the game, which has always been India's sporting heartline, there's never a dearth of cricket lovers and hence, opportunities to excel.
Having said that, there's actually a plausible reason to not be surprised by the fact that several Indian cricketers who play the famed IPL have a higher salary structure than the prized money of India's WTC 2023-25 cycle.
But before we discover who these talents are, it's also important to note that since Team India gathered the third rank in its WTC 2023-25 cycle, the prize money alloted to the famed side is approx INR 12.20 crore. This, without a doubt, will be distributed among the Team's squad for that period.
However, where it came to the IPL, the earnings were much more. So which names took home more than you'd have imagined?
5 Indian Players with higher IPL Salary than India's WTC 2023-25 prize money
Rishabh Pant
Although the brave left hander didn't really have a great IPL 2025 edition, where he was found wanting for runs, Pant was acquired by the noted LSG team for a whopping sum of INR 27 crore.
That's more than double the sum of what the Indian team was to get as shared money during their WTC cycle for the aforementioned time period.
Shreyas Iyer
This is a humungously imporant name where it comes to the current firmament of Indian cricket, a batsman and leader who oozes class and commitment. A person who didn't take long to score a Test century and has already shepharded two different IPL franchies to the final stage, his latest leadership role with Punjab Kings seeing the team in the mega IPL 2025 final clash.
Shreyas Iyer was bought for 26.5 crore INR during the recent IPL auctions by his Punjab Kings side.
Venkatesh Iyer
A fantatic talent who was part of the famed 2024 KKR title triumph, but again someone who didn't sparkle this time around in the IPL. He was bought for 23.75 crore INR by his Kolkata Knight Riders team for the 2025 season.
Virat Kohli
The King Kohli, the man who tried so hard and often times, desperately so, in his search for a mega IPL title and one he finally achieved after slogging for it for 18 long years.
Finally, Kohli, when he got it, was all smiles and even teary-eyed. But did it even come as a surprise?
He was also the most prolific scorer for his RCB team, which retained him for 21 crore INR, and even top scored in the mega IPL final against Punjab.
Arshdeep Singh
Arguably speaking, one of the finest and most important talents to be around for Indian cricket, Arshdeep swings and bounces it with much aplomb and was picked up by his Punjab side for a sum of INR 18 crore.
