If you think that the likes of Sir Wes Hall, Glenn McGrath, Ian Bishop, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Shaun Pollock, Reece Topley and the likes, are the only tall cricketers to have ever played the game, then clearly you don't know it all and that there's still quite leg work to be covered in terms of overall cricketing understanding.
The likes of Sir Clive Lloyd, Merv Dillon and Srinath and Abey Kuruvilla aren't the only tall cricketers and that many more have played and are still playing the great game of cricket. So that leads us to wonder- ever though about women cricketers?
Rather, do you know some of the tallest women cricketers in the current game and even those who once played international cricket? Worry not. Think no more for we have got it covered for you.
Here are some tall and lanky cricketers who have made 'giant' strides in the women's game:
Mahika Gaur
An exceptionally gifted cricketer, albeit one who's of Indian descent but is signed up by the UAE cricket administration, the future does belong to the young and lanky Mahika Gaur, who is just 19 years of age.
Quite possibly, the youngest current active cricketer in the women's game in the Emirates, Mahika, who debuted for England, is now a UAE cricketer. She made her T20 international debut against what was then a struggling Indonesian women's team and that happened back in 2019. Can you imagine her age back then- Mahika, a left arm fast medium, was going to be 14.
At 1.92 metres, she's 6 feet 4 inches in frame. The future does belong to this young peppy cricketer who can wreck damage with her bowling action.
Sophie Ecclestone
Someone who is currently recovering injury and hence, had to miss out on each and every recent ODI outing her team made against the West Indies women, in England, Ecclestone is quite frankly, the best current spinner from her national set up.
Arguably speaking, alongside a Sana Mir, who retired a few years ago and somone like Deepti Sharma of India and Alana King of Australia, Ecclestone, all of 26, is undoubtedly one of the best turners of the white ball.
The slow left arm orthodox cricketer's height is 1.8 metres.
Gaby Lewis
The current Irish women's captain is an able, thoughtful, methodical, courageous and yet, quietly ambitious cricketer who posseses one of the most beautiful hearts in the game.
She's already the scorer of two, not one, T20I hundreds and with a young pantheon of talent by her side, Gaby can make all the difference for an Irish team whose best days lie in the front.
The 5 feet 7 inch tall cricketer actually made her debut in the national team aged just 13, just 13. In 6 more T20I's time, she'll be playing her one hundredth for Ireland women's team and has already represented the country in 57 one dayers.
Jhulan Goswami
A cricket legend. A creator of a really struggling story that craved for success and eventually got it. One of the most selfless, committed, and outstanding of all of Indian women cricketers and as a matter of fact, a tall legend of the game, literally speakling, Goswami is the most successful fast bowler from the Indian contingent.
At 1.8 metres, Goswami with no fewer than 284 international appearances for Team India, took 355 wickets for India.
She's a hero to countless who aim to disturb the concentration of batters with brilliant, breathtaking fast bowling. A reminder that timeless efforts win it, at the end.
Holly Ferling
It's a bit of a surprise as to why the ever-competitive, always smiling and eagerly excited Aussie cricketer didn't go a long way where it comes to representing her nation, that is clearly a bastion of cricketing excellence.
Earlier on in her careerr, Ferling with the upright seam bowling was a huge contributor to Australian women rising through the ranks. Together with someone like Ellyse Perry, she raised the game for the country.
Ferling is yet to turn 30 and is supremely fit.
Yet, the Kingaroy born, who is 5 feet 11 in height just played international cricket for the Aussies for 3 full years. And that's that.
Could she not have become a fast bowling great for her country? The answer is an obvious one.
Imagine her teaming up with Perry and Schutt?
Lauren Bell
At present, Lauren Bell is, quite clearly, the most exciting and ever smiling competitor where it comes to the English camp. She's an all format player, the kind of talent that one would like to see play a lot of test match cricket. An Ashes star in the works, the tall fast bowler, who more often than not, opens the innings for England with the seam attack, is 1.83 metres tall in frame.
More importantly, for someone who's yet to turn even 25, Bell has already taken 98 international scalps for her English team.
