Former South Africa cricketer and one of the legends of the game, AB de Villiers recently guided his South Africa Champions side to title win at the World Championship of Legends (WCL). The 41-year-old, who played crucial 120* run knock in the summit clash, helped the Protea side secure victory by nine-wicket margin over Pakistan Champions at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
After his stint in the T20 tournament, which saw the 41-year-old turn back the clock to his vintage best, was questioned on his return to the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). It is to be noted that AB de Villiers announced shock retirement from IPL in 2021 after playing 14 seasons.
I think I’d rather just support: AB de Villiers on his return to IPL on Shubhankar Mishra show
When inquired of his return to the T20 franchise cricket tournament, De Villiers all but confirmed that he won’t return to the T20 cricket league. "I'll be too nervous. I think I'd rather just support. I'm a very good supporter. The IPL is just very long, and it's a three-month tournament. It's a really big commitment for someone at the age of 41,” he said.
The former Protea legend further went onto clarify that no player can be compared to any other as everyone have given their best. “You can't compare me to Dhoni. I work a lot harder. I had a lot more hard work through the years. I'm just kidding. Hats off to them. But we're all different. I gave it my best shot, and I'm happy," he continued.

Notably, AB de Villiers began his IPL stint with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008. While he played for three years in the Delhi colours, the right-handed batter joined Virat Kohli in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of IPL 2011. He continued with them for 11-long years, finally bringing down curtain to his IPL career.
