Team India has been handed a new blow ahead of the second T20I against England, scheduled to be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, January 25. Top-order batter Abhishek Sharma suffered an injury scare during the practice session on the eve of the match of the five-match series.
The Punjab batter had reportedly twisted his ankle while performing a catching drill on Friday evening. The southpaw was quick to leave the field and headed towards the dressing room as the Indian team physiotherapist checked on him. Moreover, as quoted by CricTracker, the 24-year-old spent close to 30 minutes with the physio in the dressing room after he was seen limping while he made his way to the back to the pavilion.
Abhishek Sharma doubtful for second T20I against England
However, a clarity on his participation for the second T20I now remains under clouds as India aim to extend their lead in the five-match series after registering a seven-wicket win over the Three Lions at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. If the Punjab batter fails to recover in time for the upcoming fixture, he could make way for Dhruv Jurel, while Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson could be seen opening the innings.
Abhishek had a great outing at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, smashing 79 runs off just 34 balls with his innings being laced with five fours and eight sixes. The 24-year-old top-scored as India chases 133-run target for 12.5 overs with Sanju Samson scoring 20-ball 26, while Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten at 19 and three respectively.
