Pervis Estupinan has completed a move to Italian giants AC Milan from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £17 million, including add-ons. The Ecuadorian left-back has signed a contract until 2030, becoming the first player from Ecuador to join the club - a historic milestone. Estupinan joined Brighton from Villarreal in 2022 and went on to make 104 appearances for the Seagulls. In the Premier League, he recorded four goals and nine assists across 84 matches. On the international stage, he has represented Ecuador 48 times, showcasing his experience and consistency at the highest level.
Estupinan played a key role in Brighton’s historic 2023 campaign, helping the club qualify for European competition for the first-time ever. They reached the Europa League Round of 16 before being eliminated by Roma. In the previous season, the left-back featured in 34 matches as the Seagulls secured an eighth-place finish in the Premier League. Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler, while appreciating Estupinan's contribution, said to BBC Sport, "I have enjoyed working with Pervis, and he has made a significant contribution to the club during his time here. He is at the stage of his career when he wants a fresh challenge, and this opportunity to play in Serie A gives him that."
AC Milan to fill the void left by Theo Hernandez with the entry of Pervis Estupinan
At AC Milan, Pervis Estupinan is set to step into the role previously held by Theo Hernandez, who left the club after six seasons to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Estupiñán's signing is viewed as a strategic addition aimed at reinforcing Milan’s defensive setup. The transfer also reflects a rising trend of player movement from Brighton to Italian clubs. Just two days earlier, Evan Ferguson made a loan move from Brighton to Roma. This pattern signals a strengthening link between English and Italian clubs in the transfer market.
The 27-year-old joined England in 2016 after signing with Watford, but never featured in a senior match for the club. He rose to prominence at Villarreal, where he was part of the team that defeated Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final, before making his move to the south coast with Brighton.
