In the build-up to the ODI World Cup 2023 match between New Zealand and Pakistan, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was lauding plaudits on Rachin Ravindra, the young rising sensation in the world of cricket. The 74-year-old spoke about how Rachin Ravindra got his first name from the combination of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar while stating that he expects parents to name their child “RoKo”, inspired by Rohit-Kohli.

Rachin Ravindra has been a massive difference-maker for New Zealand in their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, over the last month or so. The 23-year-old has scored 517 runs in his eight innings at the flagship tournament, at an average of 86.16 and a strike rate of 106.81, including three centuries against England, Australia, and Pakistan, with the highest score of 123 not out.

On the Star Sports live broadcast, Sunil Gavaskar praised Rachin Ravindra before using his name as an example of what he thinks might happen in regards to parents naming their child after the Indian cricketing superstars, namely Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He was quoted as saying, “With how Rachin has got his name, I won’t be surprised if today’s parents keep their child’s name “RoKo”.

Moreover, during the ongoing match against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023, Rachin Ravindra brought up his third hundred of the tournament, scoring 108 off 94 with 15 fours and one maximum to put New Zealand on course for a massive total. Apart from his three hundreds, he has also brought up two fifties in the quadrennial spectacle, which were scored against Netherlands and India.
