On Thursday, June 12, a tragic accident took several by storm as an Air India flight AI171, a Boeing Dreamliner bound for London crashed just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, which reportedly carried 242 people, 230 passengers and 12 crew members was involved in an unexpected accident.
In a post on X, the Indian airline confirmed, stating, “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on airindia.com and on our X handle.”

However, the incident has left several speechless and might see some lives lost, several members of the Indian cricketing fraternity have reacted on the same, sharing their thoughts and prayers on the incident. Former India opener, Shikhar Dhawan took to his X to grieve on the accident, stating, “Thoughts with every soul impacted by the crash near Meghani. Wishing strength and prayers to their loved ones.”
Former India spinner, Harbhajan Singh also took to X writing, “I am utterly shocked and deeply anguished to learn about the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families who are enduring unimaginable pain and loss. In moments like these, words feel so inadequate, but I hope that those affected find strength, courage, and support. My heart goes out to everyone impacted by this tragedy.”

However, as the updates are continuously shared across social media platforms, former Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani was also onboard in the aircraft as he was travelling to London.
