On Monday, May 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the revised schedule for remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which came to a halt on Friday, May 9 following the escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision from the Indian cricket board came after extensive consultations with the government along with the key stakeholders.
However, the 2025 edition is set to resume from Saturday, May 17 with the final now being played on June 3, the board hasn’t yet revealed the venue for the playoffs, owing to the security concerns prevalent in the subcontinent. As per the schedule announced originally, prior to the start of the tournament, the playoffs were set to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Ahmedabad set to hold IPL 2025 final on June 3; Mumbai to host playoff match: Reports
According to recent reports, it is being speculated that the finale of the IPL 2025 could be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3, whereas Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is expected to host a playoff match. In a media release on Monday night, the IPL Genral Council informed, as quoted by The Times of India, “After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season. Venue details for the playoff matches will be announced at a later stage.”
It is to be noted that with 57 matches completed in the tournament and 17 more matches left, including the two qualifiers, an eliminator and the final, the BCCI has announced six cities as hosts, namely Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Moreover, the revised schedule includes two double-headers, which will be played on two Sundays (May 18 and 25).
