Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was seen joking around during the practice session ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka. The Indian side, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, will be up against the neighbours for the second of the two-game Test series from August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo. The opening game of the series saw the visitors record a huge 165-run win over their counterparts to go up 1-0 in a do-or-die series. Needless to say, they would aim to extend their momentum and win the series to keep their WTC Final 2027 qualification hopes alive.

As the side geared up in the practice session ahead of the final game, Indian all-rounder Jadeja was seen joking about the cricketing venue. In a video doing rounds, a journalist was saying in one of his videos that the SSC in Colombo is called the Lord’s of Sri Lanka. Jadeja, at the same time, was walking out with his kit bag and training gear, when he saw the journalist and jokingly taunted him about the Lord’s statement. "Kya bolta hai? Lord's kaha jaata hai kya isko? (What are you saying? This is called Lord's, is it?),” the veteran cheekily told the journalist.

Is SSC Colombo Called Lord’s of Sri Lanka?

Yes, the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo is known as the “Lord’s of Sri Lanka” due to its prestigious status, rich history and role as the headquarters for Sri Lanka Cricket. The cricketing venue is considered the premier and most traditional international cricketing venue in the island nation. Not only this, but it has also hosted a large share of major domestic finals as well as significant international Test matches since the early 1990s. In addition to it, SSC serves as the main administrative headquarters for the sport’s governing body in Sri Lanka.

Talking about Ravindra Jadeja, he is the last active member of India’s old Test team, but there’s no slowing down for him anytime soon. The 37-year-old, who played in the golden generation of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravi Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, is still standing tall, while the rest of the members have exited the Test scene. Apart from them, the likes of Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami are all still playing domestic but are missing from the format for quite some time now.

While Jadeja might be standing at the exit of his Test career, he is still delivering powerful performances. Earlier during the first Test, he became the fourth cricketer in history to score at least 4,000 runs and pick 350 wickets in the longest format. Not only this, but he is also the only fifth Indian to reach 350 Test wickets, joining Anil Kumble with 619 wickets, Ashwin with 537 scalps, Kapil Dev with 434 dismissals and Harbhajan Singh with 417 wickets.
