Two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Amit Panghal advanced to the semifinals of the Strandja Memorial boxing event in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Haryana-born boxer remained unbeaten on his way to clinch the match 5-0 in a unanimous decision, knocking out Aldarkhishig Battulga of Mongolia.
Amit (51kg) build-up to his outrageous form from the previous encounter giving no chance to his opponent to make a comeback. He continued his attacking game in the whole bout and eventually emerged victorious to enter the semifinals.
Sachin and Rajat also advance into the semis
Sachin Siwach (57kg) was also at par, putting up a dominating display to enter into the semifinals after thrashing Kapanadze Giorgi of Georgia. However, the southpaw looked in some trouble in the initial stages but confirmed his semifinal berth, joining Amit Phangal.
In the first round, Sachin won the verdict with 4-1 but in the next round, he took his prowess forward with some counter-attacking punches and effective hooks. In the third round, it was Giorgi who looked desperate, and counter-attacked, but young Siwach won comfortably 5-0.
Speaking of Rajat, the Indian pugilist adopted aggressive approach from the start to knock out his in the 67kg category. While Sachin will face Ukraine’s Abduraimov Aider on February 10, Rajat will take on Guruli Lasha of Georgia in the semifinals on Sunday, February 11.
