Athiya Shetty, the Bollywood actress and the wife of KL Rahul, had a three-word reaction to her husband breaking MS Dhoni’s record for the most fifties as the designated wicket-keeper batter in the IPL. She took to her official Instagram account to remark “And this guy” after KL Rahul helped Lucknow Super Giants defeat Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets.
Notably, after KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, put Chennai Super Kings into bat first, they got a competitive score of 176/6 on the board. Ravindra Jadeja scored a fifty, while the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni had made key contributions to the CSK innings too.
In the run chase, KL Rahul was at his imperious best, putting together an opening stand of 134 with Quinton de Kock, to set up the win for Lucknow Super Giants. Prior to losing his wicket, KL Rahul scored 82 off 53, including nine fours and three maximums, and then Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis steered LSG over the line.
When KL Rahul got to his fifty, he brought up the milestone for the 25th time in his IPL career as a designated wicket-keeper batter, surpassing the previous record held by MS Dhoni with 24 fifties. It led to his wife celebrating the moment, captioning the post from the IPL on her Instagram story with a caption “And this guy.”
Moreover, the win for Lucknow Super Giants helped them reach fifth place in the IPL 2024 standings with eight points to their name. Although their NRR is the fourth best among teams with eight points, behind Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
