The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings engaged in a fiery clash with Kolkata Knight Riders on April 8, Monday, at the former’s home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The popularity of MS Dhoni in Chennai is unparalleled, and in the last clash, Russell got the taste of it.
When Chennai needed three runs to seal victory, former skipper MS Dhoni walked into bat for his side. F ans, waiting to catch a glimpse of ‘Thala’, erupted into loud cheers, and welcomed the ‘Captain Cool’ with ‘Dhoni-Dhoni’ chants. The noise was so deafening that Russell, stationed near the boundary had to cover his ears.

Coming back to the game, Ravindra Jadeja finished KKR’s innings with a terrific spell of 3-18 to give his side a powerful and dominating start. During batting, CSK’s newly-recruited captain Ruturaj Gaikwad played an unbeaten knock of 67 runs off 58 balls to help the side make a winning comeback.
The seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders marked CSK’s third home and overall win of the 17th edition of the cash-rich league. In the game, Dhoni remained unbeaten on 1 after facing three balls. Before the win, CSK faced two back-to-back defeats, while the defeat was KKR’s first of the season.
