In a press conference, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated that the club is "actively looking" to sign a striker in the ongoing January transfer window who can "make an impact." Arsenal have been quite limited in attack after Bukayo Saka suffered an hamstring injury and striker Gabriel Jesus went down due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. With an eye on winning the Premier League title after more than two decades, Arsenal are looking to stay in touch with leaders Liverpool, but the series of important player injuries and uneven results haven't helped their cause thus far.

The results in the Cup tournaments have had an impact on the Arsenal's performance in Premier League as well. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United, apart from finding themsleves behind Newcastle 0-2 after the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. With back-to-back losses in the Cup and injury to key players, Arsenal would want to bolster their squad with new signings.

We lack goals, we lack people: Mikel Arteta on impactful players' requirement

According to Mikel Arteta, Arsenal needs some impactful players who can make a difference. "My opinion is clear that we lost two very very important players, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. So, we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the frontline, it's clear," Arteta said.

"It is clear that in the period that we lost them, ideally, we need some help. We were short already and now we are even shorter. The team still copes with that." He further stated, "Any player, no," he added. "[It has to be] someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team," he added.

There are reports of Arsenal being in talks with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. Although Mikel Arteta, who did not comment on either player in his pre-match press conference, said it is not guaranteed that Arsenal would be able to conclude a move for a forward this January.
