India, the seven-time Asia Cup champions, will kick off their latest campaign in the continental cricket tournament against their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2, Saturday. These two neighbouring countries will play each other in the beautiful city of Kandy in Sri Lanka, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on the weekend.
In their first ODI match since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, India and Pakistan will be looking to defeat each other to secure their spot in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023. But, the weather forecast for this high-octane clash between the two arch-rivals isn’t good, with AccuWeather predicting a considerable amount of cloud and showers at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium this Saturday.

If the rain washes out the entire India vs Pakistan encounter in Kandy on September 2, the teams will receive one point each. In this case, the Men in Green will qualify for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023, while Team India will need to defeat Nepal, the third team in Group A, in two days at the same venue.
But, if the rain subsides at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, India and Pakistan will have to bat at least 20 overs to constitute a result in the match, as per the DLS method. Also, if the match is reduced to a 20-over affair, and the team batting second doesn't bat out their overs or chase the target beforehand, then the result won’t be ascertained and the teams will share one point each in the Asia Cup 2023.
