Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh in their Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s clash at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, September 9. Sri Lanka topped Group B with four points, while Bangladesh finished second with two points after upsetting Afghanistan in the final group stage game on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka had a difficult group, with Bangladesh and Afghanistan being fierce contenders to top the group, and the Three Lions had to fight tooth and nail to get through. Dasun Shanaka’s men beat Bangladesh fairly easily, winning by five wickets, but faced a tough time against Afghanistan, winning by two runs. Maheesh Pathirana has been the find of this tournament as he has brought T20 form to ODI cricket, picking up five wickets in two matches.
On the other hand, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan, courtesy of tons from Najmul Shanto and Mehidy Hasan as they racked 334 in 50 overs and defended the total fairly comfortably. Taskin Ahmed has been impressive in the bowling department, picking up five wickets in two group stage games. But with the team progressing into the Super 4s, the side is missing the services of Shanto as has been ruled out with a hamstring issue.
