The Indian 4×400 mixed relay team beat out Sri Lanka and Japan to win the gold at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023. The team also surpassed the national record in the process as they clocked 3.14.70 in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, July 15.

Meanwhile, Sarvesh A Kushare of India won silver in the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.26m, while Tejaswin Shankar was eliminated from medal contention. Swapna Barman won the silver in the women's heptathlon with 5840 points. She lost to Ekaterina Voronina of Uzbekistan who won the gold with 6098 points.

The relay team of Rajesh Ramesh, Aishwarya Mishra, Amoj Jacob & Subha Venkatesan beat out the earlier record of 3.15.71 which was set at the 2018 Asian Games. The Sri Lankan team settled for the Silver with a timing of 3.15.41 while Japan secured the Bronze.

Murali Sreeshankar, India's premier long jumper, won a silver medal and qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In his last try, the 24-year-old Kerala athlete achieved a second career-best leap of 8.37m to finish second and earn the Olympic qualification mark of 8.27m.

Santhosh Kumar won the bronze in the men's 400m hurdles with a personal best timing of 49.09 seconds. In the men's 400m hurdles, Santhosh posted the fastest time by an Indian this year, finishing behind gold medallist Mohammed Hemeida Bassem (48.64 seconds) of Qatar and Yusaku Kodama (48.96 seconds) of Japan. Indian athletes have so far won 14 medals - six gold, four silver, and four bronze at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023.
