Indian athlete Avinash Mukund Sable scripted history by clinching India's first gold at the men's 3000m steeplechase event in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Republic of China. The 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist clocked the time of 8.19.54s to win the yellow metal. This win of the 29-year-old athlete extended the Indian gold medal tally to 12 and marked first top medal in athletics at the Asiad 2023.
